Questions & answers
Everything you need before enrolling. Don't see your question? Email us at support@daralhikma.institute.
Do I need to already know Arabic?
Yes. You need functional reading and comprehension of Classical Arabic (Fuṣḥā). Dar al-Hikma transmits the Islamic sciences in Arabic — it does not teach the Arabic language itself.
How do I know if my Arabic is good enough?
The “Is my Arabic good enough?” page gives you four passages from the sciences we teach, rising in difficulty. Read them and judge for yourself — nothing is recorded.
Are the sessions live or recorded?
Live on Zoom on weekends, with recordings provided to enrolled students. A few lessons may be taught live-only at the teacher's discretion.
What if I miss a live session?
You can watch the recording afterwards — except for any lessons the teacher designates as live-only.
Can I buy a single text instead of the whole program?
Yes. Each text can be taken on its own, or enroll in the full program ($75) and save $45 versus buying the texts individually.
Do I get a certificate or ijāza?
Your progress is tracked, and an ijāza is granted at the teacher's discretion, in keeping with the scholarly tradition.
What do I need technically?
A device with Zoom and a stable internet connection — and a notebook for taking notes.
What is the refund policy?
You can request a full refund within 14 days provided you haven't attended more than two sessions. See the Refund Policy page for details.
